Officials of the Circuit de Catalunya have denied that they are suffering from financial problems and that the Spanish Grand Prix is in jeopardy as a result. The local government of Catalonia has reported earlier this month that they might reconsider hosting the Spanish Grand Prix as they find the fee they pay to Bernie Ecclestone too high.
However, Circuit de Catalunya track manager Salvado Servia said: “Only a disaster; say, an earthquake, is a problem. Forget all the rumors and headlines. We are still working as we were before.”
In answer to Ecclestone statement that he would like to reduce the number of European races to five in the future, Servia said: “If there are five then we want to be one of them and we will fight to be. We have had no communications from Ecclestone or his organization regarding these rumors and headlines. We are here, working to fulfill our contract until 2016 and thinking about 2020 as well.”
